Barons Fall in Series Opener to Skyhawks

In a windy showdown in Mount Vernon, GA, on February 14th, the Brewton-Parker Barons faced a tough defeat against the Point Skyhawks in their first conference game of the season. The game ended with a score of 6-4 in favor of Point. Despite a valiant effort from the Barons and several comebacks, the Barons were unable to overcome the deficit and gain the lead. Brewton-Parker's performance saw key contributions from Marquette Gibson, who scored a run and hit a home run, boosting the team's morale. J. Reid Phillips, Michael Son, and Orlando Perez each crossed home plate. The team managed a few RBIs, courtesy of Marquette Gibson, but securing a win against Point was not enough. Brandon Russell started as pitcher for the Barons, battling through challenging weather conditions and a strong opposing lineup. Coach Aaron Larsen reflected on the game's outcome, stressing the need for improvement. "Obviously, it was not the start we wanted to begin conference play with. At the same time, the boys competed till the end. We need to be better late in games and closeout. We also can't strand as many runners as we did. We will refocus and get ready for tomorrow," Larsen commented. He focuses on refining the team's strategy and ensuring they are better equipped for future contests. Looking ahead, the Barons will face Point University again in a doubleheader on February 15th at Mount Vernon, providing an immediate opportunity to address the issues highlighted by Coach Larsen and seek redemption.
