Barons Fall to Toppers

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Barons faced off against the Toppers of Blue Mountain in a Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) battle at Blue Mountain, Miss. The game, held on February 13, 2025, concluded with the Toppers edging past the Barons with a score of 90-82. The game started promising for the Barons, with Ferlin Joseph Jr. scoring the first basket. However, the Toppers quickly responded, seizing the lead early thanks to a three-pointer from Vincent Douglas. Despite a spirited effort from the Barons, the Toppers maintained their lead throughout the first half and went into the break with a commanding lead of 42-28. The Barons, led by Grant Sanders with 22 points and 11 rebounds, attempted a comeback in the second half. Dre Burroughs also made significant contributions, leading the team in assists and steals, with two each, and scoring 16 points. Despite their best efforts, Blue Mountain extended its lead to as many as 21 points during the game. The loss moves Brewton-Parker's season record to 7-18, with a conference record of 3-12. The Barons hope to rebound in their next outing against UT Southern in Pulaski, Tenn., on February 15, 2025. The team remains focused on improving their standings prior to the conference tournament.
