Barons Fall to Toppers in Conference Clash

Ryan Feaster | Brewton-Parker Christian University | Sep 18, 2025

In a closely contested conference match on September 18, 2025, the Brewton-Parker Christian University Barons faced off against Blue Mountain Christian University at the BMCU Sportsplex. Despite leading at halftime with a score of 1-0, the Barons were unable to hold on to the lead and lost the game 3-2. The game started promisingly for the Barons with aggressive play that led to the first goal. Luca Vicino opened the scoring in the 44th minute to give the Barons the 1-0 lead going into halftime. Despite their strong play and striking second in the 74th minute with a goal from JP Alonso, the Barons were unable to stop the Toppers from scoring three unanswered goals. The Barons did their best but were unable to stop the Toppers' offense. Goalie Diego Alejandro Montes Carrera received a red card in the 88th minute, bringing in Gerardo Galicia in relief. Head Coach Bob Nuemann shared his thoughts on the team's performance. "That's the SSAC for you. You can be excellent for 90% of the game and if you switch off for a moment you get caught out. I'm proud of the boys for their work ethic over the course of the 90 minutes. If we play like that for the rest of our conference campaign, we will get ourselves to the right place." Looking ahead, the Barons are set to face the University of Tennessee Southern in Pulaski, Tennessee, on September 20, 2025. They aim to improve their current record of 1-5-0, standing 0-1-0 in the conference, and are likely focusing on strategic adjustments and recovery as they prepare for this upcoming challenge.
