Barons Shatter School Record in Gainesville

The Barons traveled to Gainesville, Fla., on February 2, 2025, to participate in The Legends of Alachua County Invitational. The event saw the Barons show up and shatter numerous school records in a variety of events. During the weekend, the Barons team saw six new school records and one other tied. The Barons were able to showcase their abilities in both track running events and field throwing and jumping events. Travis Massey led the way by setting a new school record in the 60m with a blistering time of 6.81 seconds, also meeting the National Qualifying B Standard. His performance was not just a personal record but a key moment of the meet, earning him a spot at the Nationals. Meanwhile, John Gali shattered the one-mile record with a time of 4:47.92, and Anthony Ferrie broke the 600m record, clocking in at 1:24.59. The women's 4x400 relay team, consisting of Sidni Daniel, Danaysia Roberts, Kameron Noble, and Kendra Payne, also set a new school record of 4:12.13. Coach Stephen Roberts shared his thoughts on the team's performance: "I was very proud of the energy that everyone put out overall as a team. I feel that we are progressing in the right direction as a team. School records are being broken again, it seems, every time we step on the track. That is great with the young group of athletes we have here. I am so proud that God gave us the opportunity to glorify him." In field events, Yabaka Moore excelled by breaking the shot put record with a throw of 15.41m and tying the school record in the weight throw at 14.93m. Javon Mclean soared to a new school record in the long jump with a 6.67m leap. Coach Tony Hawkins praised the team's effort and achievements, stating, "Phenomenal job to the coaching staff and athletes for performances that indicate we are ready to perform at a high level for the conference championships next week." The Barons are gearing up for their next challenge at the SSAC Indoor Conference Championships, set on February 13, 2025, in Gainesville, Florida. The team's recent accomplishments at the Invitational spell promising prospects for their performance in the upcoming event.
