Barons Split Day Two at Coca-Cola Classic

The Barons finished day two at the Coca-Cola Classic, splitting their doubleheader. They took a narrow defeat in game one against Coastal Georgia 2-1 and dominated game two against West Virginia Tech 14-5, run-ruling them after five innings. The Barons managed to find much more success at the plate on day two and bounced back after the tough losses of day one. In game one, the Barons had slightly more success at the plate, tallying six hits but unable to score more than once. The Barons had a much better day on the mound. Kaylee Odum pitched six innings, only giving up two runs. The Barons were able to carry some of their success at the plate into their next game. Leading the charge for Brewton-Parker in game two was a series of standout performances from players such as Katelyn Skinner, who went a perfect 3-for-3, including two doubles and tallying three RBIs. Cailyn Snellgrov also played a crucial role, hitting successfully and advancing on a critical throwing error that led to several runs. Pumping in runs for the Barons were Tori Wright, Lexi Bradshaw, Abby Flowers, Shelby Aiken, Hannah Rust, Alyssa Usrey, and Cailyn Snellgrov, each contributing significantly to the robust scoreboard. WVU Tech placed early pressure by scoring two runs in the first inning. However, Brewton-Parker swiftly responded with four runs in their half of the inning, setting the tone for the rest of the game. The Barons continued to build their lead, ultimately reaching the final tally of 14 runs by the fifth inning. The Golden Bears struggled to find their footing, hindered by several defensive errors that Brewton-Parker capitalized on. After the game, Coach expressed satisfaction with the team's performance, highlighting the improved batting and strategic plays. "Today was a better day at the plate. We played better, and that's what you want to see. We are still trying to figure out the line-up before we kick off the conference," said the coach, indicating a positive outlook heading into more competitive conference play.
