The Barons hosted the Columbia (S.C.) College Koalas for an afternoon doubleheader, February 1, 2025. The Barons managed to jump out to an early lead in game one, scoring three runs at the bottom of the second to help propel them to a 3-1 victory in game one of the day. The Koalas bounced back and showcased their offensive prowess as the Barons struggled in the circle, taking them down 13-5 in game two to force the split. Alyssa Usrey, Cailyn Snellgrov, and Kaci Paul were the driving forces behind Brewton-Parker's offense, each crossing home plate to secure the win in game one. Tori Wright and Kaci Paul were key parts of the Barons' offense in game one driving in all of the Barons runs. On the defensive end, Kaylee Odum delivered an exceptional pitching performance, tossing a complete seven innings while allowing just two hits and one run and accruing five strikeouts. Odum's prowess on the mound was pivotal in securing the Barons' victory in game one. Coach Madison Herrin shared his thoughts on the team's performance on the day, "We were able to pull out a split today. We still have a few things we are trying to figure out defensively, and we continue to have some quality offensive approaches. Columbia College played well today and deserved the win in game two. We will get it figured out moving forward as we prepare for a busy week." The Barons dropped the second game despite getting an early lead, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. The Barons gave up the lead in the top of the third, conceding three runs. The Barons' struggles continued from there, giving up five runs in the fifth and four in the top of the seventh. The Barons scored three times in the bottom of the fifth to try and cut the lead. The Barons were unable to do much against the Koalas starter Ally Boyd, who threw a complete game, earning the win despite the five earned runs given up. Looking forward, the Barons are set to face the University of Rio Grande (Ohio) next on February 7, 2025, in Columbia, at the Coca-Cola-Cola Classic. This tournament will allow the Barons to face four teams. The Barons are looking to build off the weekend,d set sitting with a record of 2-1-1 as they head to South Carolina.
