Barons Struggle vs Firehawks

In a pivotal conference match in Gillis Gymnasium, the Brewton-Parker Christian University Barons faced off against the University of Tennessee Southern Firehawks on September 27, 2025. Despite moments of strong play and a closely contested second set, the Barons fell short, dropping the game to the Firehawks with a final score of 3-1. The opening set saw the Barons lose 22-25, starting the match on the back foot. The team, however, rallied brilliantly in the second set to secure a 26-24 victory, which was highlighted by intense rallies and crucial plays that showcased their skill. Despite this momentum, the third and fourth sets were challenging for the Barons as they were defeated 13-25 and 20-25, respectively. Key player performances were notable throughout the match. Adriana De Jesus led the team with 12 kills, followed by Taylor Lamontagne with 11 kills and eight digs, solidifying her all-around contribution. Amme Mobley also stood out, contributing nine kills. On the defensive front, blocks were scarce, with Ryann Prince and Raphaela Felisberto each registering a block. Felisberto tallied 35 assists and three aces, continuing to set up her teammates with scoring chances. Reflecting on the match, Head Coach Obed Quiles expressed concerns about the team's consistency. "We keep making unforced errors. We need to pay more attention to details. We had a good offensive game until the last set. We need to be disciplined with our movements," remarked Coach Quiles. Looking ahead, the Barons will face off against Point University in West Point, Ga., on October 4, 2025, as they seek to improve their current record of 2-12 and 0-7 in conference play. The Barons aim to rally and refocus on fundamentals to show improvement as they enter the remainder of conference play.
