Barons Win Back-to-Back to take Weekend Series

The Barons traveled to Cochran, Ga., for two games on February 1, 2025. The Barons got into the win column for their first two wins of the season, beating Spartanburg Methodist College and Middle Georgia State University. The wins bring the Barons to 2-1 and give them their first-weekend series win of the year. The Barons offense was firing on all cylinders in the first game against the Spartanburg Methodist Pioneers, taking the game with a score of 12-5. Dylan Speakman, Marquette Gibson, and Jeremi Lara lead the Barons offense. Jeremi Lara drove in six RBIs. Lara cracked the game open in the third inning with a three-RBI double to swing the momentum into the Baron's favor. Dylan Speakman's quick dash home on a wild pitch in the eighth further sealed the game, giving the Barons their first win of the year. Grant Cochran started on the bump for the Barons and took home the win after pitching three innings. Game two was a chance for the Barons to bounce back and take on the Knights of Middle Georgia State University after the tough loss on Friday afternoon. The Barons jumped out to an early lead, tallying three runs in the top of the first, but gave up two runs in the bottom of the first, leaving them with a one-run one-run lead. The Knights struck back at the bottom of the fifth with two runs, taking the lead for the first time in the entire game. The Barons bats woke up with an RBI single in the sixth from Marquette Gibson, and in the seventh, Kennard Dawson scored on a wild pitch. Zach Carlton had an RBI single that advanced Anthony Savarese to third. Savarese would score on a sacrifice fly from Kendell Wade. Michael Son had a two-RBI single in the ninth to give the Barons a five-run cushion going into the bottom of the ninth. Bryce Morley threw three and a third to get the win for the Barons coming into the game in the fifth inning. Carlos Rodriguez would come out of the pen in the ninth to shut the Knights down, striking out two to end the game 9-4 for the Barons. Head Coach Aaron Larsen shared his thoughts on the team's performance today, "I was very happy with how our group responded today. It's always good to get back in the win column and see some good things we can build off of. The bats were hot in game one, and Jeremi was on fire, going 3-4 with 6 RBIs. Our pitchers did a much better job of finding the zone today and got to see multiple arms on the bump. We managed to carry our hitting into game two. While it's good to get a couple of wins, there are always things we can improve. Namely our fielding. We had five errors on the day, so we're gonna spend the week getting right and be ready for our home opener vs Shawnee on Friday." Looking forward, Brewton-Parker aims to carry this momentum into their next game against Shawnee State University from Ohio, scheduled for February 7 in Mount Vernon. Fans are eager to see if the Barons can continue their winning ways and build on this early season success.
