Brewton-Parker Christian University Welcomes New Assistant Women's Wrestling Coach

Brewton-Parker Christian University has announced the appointment of Cruz Phillips as the new Assistant Women's Wrestling Coach, a move aimed at strengthening the coaching staff for the Barons ahead of the 2025 wrestling season. Phillips brings a rich pedigree in wrestling coaching from his previous roles, including significant experiences at Toombs County and Oglethorpe County Schools. He served as an assistant boys' wrestling coach at Toombs County and also as the head of the girls' wrestling program. At Oglethorpe County Schools, Phillips contributed as an assistant and club coach. Head Coach Josh Sturgill shared his thoughts on adding Cruz to the program: "I'm excited to have Cruz join our program. It's going to be great to have a new personality in the program that will bring a lot of energy and technique to our room." The Barons aim to utilize Cruz to help them build on their performance from last year. Phillips' coaching career highlights include leading three state champions on the boys' side, with the team securing a 2nd place finish at the Georgia State tournament. Additionally, under his guidance, the girls' wrestling program at Toombs County produced its first state qualifier, marking the program's commencement. Cruz shared his excitement to join Brewton-Parker wrestling, "I'm incredibly excited to join as the Assistant Women's Wrestling Coach. I look forward to building something special, helping these athletes grow on and off the mat, and taking this program to the next level." Brewton-Parker Christian University looks forward to Phillips' contributions to its women's wrestling program, particularly in leveraging his experience in coaching and program development to enhance the university's women's wrestling program.
