Lady Barons Fall to Crusaders

Ryan Feaster | Brewton-Parker Christian University | Jan 25, 2025

The Lady Barons hosted the Crusaders of William Carey on January 25, 2025, at home, and despite having played well so far in the conference, the Lady Barons were unable to stop the undefeated Crusaders. The Lady Barons had no answer for the Crusaders, with a final score of 44-75. The game showcased the level of competition the Lady Barons will need to be able to contend with in the SSAC tournament and, hopefully, the National tournament at the end of the season. By halftime, the scoreline hinted at an uphill battle for the Lady Barons, trailing 23-36. Despite tenacious efforts from players like Angel Mcrae, who notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Destanee Wright, who added eight points, six rebounds, and a block, Brewton-Parker struggled to match the pace and execution of their opponents. William Carey capitalized on key runs throughout the game that secured their lead and eventual victory. Reflecting on the game, Coach Steve Edwards acknowledged the superior performance of the opposition. "We were outclassed by a better team at home today. William Carey is undefeated, and they are incredibly consistent. We quickly learned today that our group has to mature in a few areas before we can beat an elite team," he commented. The Lady Barons are gearing up to host Loyola University (La.) on January 27, 2025, at Gillis Gymnasium. Currently holding a record of 9-10 overall, with a 5-3 tally in conference play, the team remains optimistic about making the necessary adjustments to rebound in their next matchup.
