Lady Barons Fall to Night Hawks

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - In a difficult conference clash on January 10, 2026, the Brewton-Parker Christian University Lady Barons were unable to overcome the Thomas University Night Hawks at Gillis Gymnasium. The Lady Barons fell 58-70 and dropped their second conference game of the year.

The Lady Barons started the game in control and grabbed a 17-15 lead at the end of the first quarter. Brewton-Parker endured an offensive drought in the second. Thomas used pressure defense to flip the game, forcing turnovers and turning live-ball mistakes into points in transition. The Barons were held to just four points in the period and trailed 31-21 at the half after a Thomas layup at the buzzer pushed the deficit into double figures.

The Barons responded out of the break with their best stretch of the afternoon. Andranique Stewart sparked the push with an early paint finish that cut into the margin and ignited a third-quarter run. The Lady Barons poured in 19 points in the frame, attacking the rim, getting to the foul line, and converting second-chance opportunities to trim what had been a 10-point deficit down to two at 42-40 heading into the fourth.

Thomas answered in the final quarter with timely perimeter shooting and efficiency at the rim, while Brewton-Parker’s offense cooled again. A key 3-pointer from Thomas guard Kennedy Collins helped swing momentum early in the period, and the visitors continued to capitalize on turnovers. The Barons finished with 20 turnovers against Thomas’ active defense, which produced 11 steals and repeatedly disrupted Brewton-Parker’s half-court rhythm.

Stewart led Brewton-Parker with a double-double, posting 12 points and 12 rebounds to go with five steals while drawing consistent defensive attention. Even with the strong individual effort and a clear edge on the backboards, the Barons could not offset Thomas’ 45.6% shooting from the floor and the visitors’ ability to convert miscues into points, ultimately dropping a competitive matchup that was within one possession late in the third quarter.

Head Coach Steve Edwards shared his thoughts following the game, "Today didn't catch me by surprise. We aren't consistent, and we don't make enough plays when it matters the most. Our older players need to be difference makers for us moving forward. I'm hopeful we are learning what it takes to win consistently in our league."

The Lady Barons will continue their campaign with a two-game road trip starting on January 15, 2026. They will take on Faulkner University (Ala.) before traveling to Mobile, Ala., to take on Mobile University, where they will look to get back into the win column and improve their 4-12 and 3-2 record.
