Ryan Feaster | Brewton-Parker Christian University | Feb 15, 2025

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - In a challenging SSAC regular season conference game on February 15, 2025, the Brewton-Parker Lady Barons faced a tough matchup against the Tennessee Southern Firehawks at Curry Athletic Complex. Despite a spirited performance, the Barons fell 97-74 to the Firehawks. Destanee Wright led Brewton-Parker in scoring with 22 points, supported by Angel McRae, who had a well-rounded game with 13 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, and four steals. The team struggled to match Tennessee Southern's pace and play, particularly in the second half of the game. Tennessee Southern jumped out to an early lead and maintained it throughout, ending the first half ahead at 46-40. Tennessee Southern further extended its dominance in the second half, leading by as much as 20 points at one point. This gap proved to be too much for the Barons to close. Head Coach Steve Edwards of Brewton-Parker expressed his thoughts on the game, "Today was a test for our group to see if we could beat a really good team on the road. We didn't compete at a high level in the second half of the game Today. We didn't respond well. Our teams traditionally compete better than what we displayed Today. I will do a better job of making sure we are ready to go. Today was a test of effort, energy, and basketball character. If we are going to finish strong, we have to get to a place where we are connected, and we play our brand of basketball on both sides of the ball. We finish the regular season next week. We need to take care of next week to gain momentum going into the postseason tournament. I will make sure we are locked in and ready to compete." The Barons look ahead to their next game against Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) on February 20, 2025, in Tifton, Ga., as they aim to bounce back and close the regular season on a high note. With a current record of 13-12, 9-5 in the conference, the team is focused on refining their strategies and performance for the upcoming postseason tournament.
