Brown B's Roll Past Fordham B-Side 127-0 Behind 19-Try Attack

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Brown University Men’s Rugby needed only 30 seconds to seize control Saturday, turning Lutendo Nematswerani’s opening try into the start of a 127-0 victory over Fordham B-side. Nematswerani scored four tries, Ryan Schroeder added four more, and Brown produced 19 tries overall in a commanding performance at Marvel Field.
Nematswerani’s immediate breakthrough set the tone, and Ben Shirley added the first of his 16 conversions to make it 7-0. Luke Coll crossed in the sixth minute before Nematswerani struck twice in less than two minutes, completing a hat-trick before the 10-minute mark. 8-man Bryan Onwuka followed with a try at 12:00, with a 50-meter carry, stretching Brown’s advantage to 35-0 as the attack repeatedly turned sustained pressure into points.
Schroeder took over the scoring charge with tries at 16:30 and 19:00. Then King of the Wing Nematswerani completed his four-try haul at 20:30, and Kristofers Klavins crossed at 25:00 to make it 63-0 following another Shirley conversion. Brown continued the offensive onslaught, with scrumhalf Freddie Bracken-Smith '29 taking it in himself from the back of a 5-meter scrum. On the ensuing kick-off, graduate student lock Edward Abel-Guobadia received the kick and barreled through several defenders for over 60 meters until he was dragged down, but not before he could offload to Wesley Barentzen to finish for the score. Schroeder then completed his hat-trick at 35:30, with all 3 tries coming from Cameron Kean assists, and struck again less than three minutes later, pushing the margin to 91-0.
The production continued through the closing stages. Jamie Tappin scored twice in a span of three and a half minutes, and Shirley crossed at 49:00 before converting his own try. Senior wing William Yu supplied Brown’s 17th try, Abel Guobadia added another at 55:00, and after Abel Guobadia was tripped to stop him from scoring off a 40-meter carry, Shirley took a pass from the resulting penalty quick tap, completed the scoring, and the match, with a try and conversion at 57:30.
Shirley finished with a match-high 42 points, scoring two tries and converting 16 of Brown’s 19 attempts for an 84.2% conversion rate. Nematswerani and Schroeder each contributed 20 points through their four-try performances, while Tappin scored 10. Coll, Onwuka, Klavins, Bracken-Smith, Barentzen, Yu, and Guobadia each added five points. Brown’s defense matched the attack’s consistency, preventing Fordham from breaching the scoreboard.
The B's will carry that momentum into their next match, an away contest against the Siena College Saints' second side on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2026. The 19-try showing gives the team a powerful foundation as it prepares for its first road test following Saturday’s emphatic home result.
