Brown Men's Rugby B-side Shuts Out Dartmouth at Berylson Family Fields

In a b-side rugby showdown on October 26, 2024, the Brown Bears B's exhibited a dominant performance, shutting out Ivy League rivals the Dartmouth Big Green with a commanding 39-0 victory at Berylson Family Fields. The match took place under sunny skies with gusty winds, which failed to hamper the Bears' strong play. The two teams played to a stalemate until Brown seized control at 16:30 with Joe Al-Hasso scoring from a strong pick-and-go carry. Dartmouth struggled to respond to Brown's aggressive play, just two minutes later, speedy senior Kenyon Graham corraled a daring kick (Hork bomb) from flyhalf James Horkan for a highlight try. Protecting a 12-point lead, Malcolm Grant, who was subbed in for an injured player, immediately capitalized with a penalty kick, widening the lead beyond two scores. The Bears went into halftime with a 15-0 advantage. The second half started with Erik Estienne scoring 90 seconds in, keeping all the momentum with the Bears. Five minutes later, Erik would notch his second score of the match completing a successful counterattack from a Dartmouth clearance kick. Nearly 20 minutes of scoreless rugby would pass before team Vice-Captain Al-Hasso scored again from a lineout maul. A signature long-run try from Toby Achleitner to conclude the match underscored Brown's unchallenged superiority. Conversions were successfully kicked by Ben Shirley (2) and Joe Ashford, rounding out a resoundingly well-played match by the B-side Bears. B-side captain senior James Horkan reflected on the rivalry and the victory, stating, "Every year we look forward to playing Dartmouth, they've been our biggest rivals since I've been here.
