Brown Men's Rugby B's Continue Winning Streak with Dominant Victory Over AIC
In a clash with the Yellow Jackets at American International College, Brown Men's Rugby asserted its prowess on the field with a resounding 32-7 victory against American International College on October 13, 2024. Continuing their unblemished campaign, Brown now stands at an impressive 5-0 for the season with 312 points scored while allowing only 12 in just 330 minutes played. The match commenced under cool, cloudy skies with a hint of rain, setting the stage for what would become a display of tactical grit and determination from Brown. By halftime, Brown had already set a solid foundation with a 12-0 lead. Despite a spirited start from AIC in the second half, securing a highlight kick and chase try, Brown's defense tightened, preventing further scores from their opponents. 'We had a bit of a blunder on the play AIC scored from, and their fans went crazy. The match was still very close on the scoreboard but we didn't let them steal the momentum. We stuck to our systems and scored 20 unanswered points to finish the match strong,' recounted freshman fullback Joe Ashford. Notable performances included Erik Estienne, who not only scored two tries but also successfully completed a dropkick conversion, and graduate student Blaine Byszio, marking his debut with a try. Club Vice Captain Joe Al-Hasso, Kenyon Graham, and Joe Ashford all also contributed tries. Ryan Grant, the team's coach, praised the team's response to challenges faced during the match: 'This was the closest match this group has been in so far this season. It was great to see them face some adversity from a very physical and athletic AIC team that was desperate to take something away from us after the A-side match. We took their best shot and hit back harder. We were tough when the match demanded it and skillful when we had the opportunity. This group continues to raise the standard for the entire club.'
