Brown Pulls Away From Siena for 21-8 Road Victory

Brown Men’s Rugby turned patience near the try line into the decisive score Saturday, using Bertie Deen’s 69th-minute try to break an 8-8 tie on the way to a 21-8 victory at Siena. Deen finished a powerful attacking sequence with a pick-and-go after Brown’s lineout maul had driven close to the line, and Tito Edjua added the conversion for a seven-point advantage.
Edjua opened the scoring in the 21st minute, converting a penalty to put Brown ahead 3-0. Siena answered with a penalty in the 29th minute, leveling the match before Brown faced another test when Charm Tuala received a yellow card for a high tackle in the 33rd minute. Playing temporarily with 14, Brown stayed composed and found a breakthrough through its scrum.
Wolfe Morn delivered that breakthrough in the 36th minute. With Brown attacking from a scrum, Morn worked the short side and crossed for the first try of the match, sending the Bears into halftime with an 8-3 lead. The score rewarded a strong phase from the pack and gave Brown momentum despite its stretch at a one-player disadvantage.
Siena’s No. 14 was shown a yellow card for a high tackle in the 55th minute, but the hosts struck next. A 60th-minute try by Siena's No. 12 from an intercepted pass erased Brown’s five-point halftime advantage and tied the match at 8-8. Siena could not add the conversion, leaving everything level and setting up a tense final quarter.
Brown’s response came through sustained pressure and a dominant set-piece sequence. After the lineout maul brought the Bears within reach, Deen powered over with support to restore the lead. Edjua’s conversion made it 15-8, and the kicker then gave Brown breathing room with penalties in the 78th and 80th minutes. Siena received a red card for foul play in the 80th minute before Edjua completed the scoring.
Edjua led Brown with 11 points, making all three of his penalty kicks and his lone conversion attempt. Morn and Deen contributed five points apiece with one try each, while Brown’s defense held Siena scoreless after the 56th minute. The Bears will return to the road to face Fairfield at 2 p.m. EDT on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026.
