PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Tito Edjua broke six tackles on a scoring run of more than 45 meters just 3:30 into the match, launching the Brown University men's rugby team toward a 90-0 win over Notre Dame on Saturday, Oct. 24, in Providence during Brown's annual family weekend festivities on the Berylson Family Fields. Edjua finished with 35 points. Brown scored 14 tries in their 2nd FirstPoint USA Scholars Cup match while keeping Notre Dame scoreless throughout.

Asa Rosenmeier powered through two defenders at 9:40 for Brown's second try. Erik Estienne followed at 22:45, scoring from a five-meter lineout maul as Brown paired its open-field running with close-range execution.

Rosenmeier's second try at 26:30 capped a sweeping move and a quick defensive recovery. Inigo Langford returned a kick more than 50 meters before Marco Lapierre delivered a behind-the-back pass to St John Smith, who carried another 20 meters. Notre Dame intercepted Smith's offload, but Charm Tuala immediately stripped the defender. Rosenmeier recovered the ball and drove through three defenders to score.

Bobby Voth sent Smith untouched through a gap for a try at 31:30. Lapierre then sparked another counterattack, carrying more than 35 meters before passing out of contact to John Cox, who finished from about 25 meters out at 37:00. Edjua converted Cox's try to send Brown into halftime ahead 36-0, with six tries and three successful conversions.

Brown accelerated after the break, starving Notre Dame of possession, and adding eight more tries along with seven conversions. Patrick Minihane opened the second-half scoring with a goal-line pick-and-go at 43:00. Smith carried more than 30 meters from a scrum set play near midfield and released Edjua for an untouched finish at 45:30. At 51:00, Estienne scored his second try after Lapierre gathered a bouncing kick deep in Brown territory, Langford ran more than 50 meters and Smith supplied the final offload.

Edjua completed his three-try performance at 54:30, claiming the ball from a downed Notre Dame player and running in to score. Wolfe Morn finished a lineout set play originating at Brown's own 40-meter line at 57:30. Voth supplied Smith's second try at 66:00, with Smith carrying through and over defenders this time. Morn added a second at 72:00 on a pass from scrumhalfThomas Bouchard after Brown won a defensive scrum in Notre Dame territory.

The final try came from the ensuing kickoff. Cameron Kean drew a defender to create space for Malcolm Grant, who ran more than 40 meters before finding Lapierre. After helping build several earlier scores, Lapierre finished untouched from more than 35 meters out at 73:45. Edjua added his 10th conversion for the final points.

Head Coach David Laflamme
First of all we need to thank all our families, friends, supporters, and the Fighting Irish faithful who all came out to make this an incredible day of rugby. This is a special event every year as families from all over the world make their way to campus to support our club and celebrate together. For me, it's awesome to reconnect with those I haven't seen in some time and to meet many folks for the first time. As for the rugby, our guys really put on a show for their loved ones today, attacking and defending at an extremely high standard. With just one more regular season match between us and Dartmouth, we want to be able to build upon this level of performance. Notre Dame is a very talented and well-coached team who are unfortunately dealing with some injuries right now, we hope to be able to face them again in the future with a healthy roster on both sides. Next week, we'll host AIC, who is always a difficult opponent to play against. We'll celebrate tonight and then put this behind us to prepare for what will surely be a physical encounter with those boys.
