Alton tops East Alton-Wood River in shotgun meet

Alton defeated East Alton-Wood River in a varsity coed shotgun shooting competition Thursday in Cottage Hills, finishing ahead in both reported score lines, 88-83 and 89-58.
For the Oilers, Henry Steiner turned in the top individual performance. Steiner led East Alton-Wood River with rounds of 22 and 16, providing the team’s best scores against a strong Alton group. His effort gave the Oilers a reliable presence across the competition, even as Alton posted the higher team totals.
The meet was held at the Winchester Trap and Skeet Range. The final results showed a tight margin in one portion of the competition at 88-83, before a wider 89-58 result in the other scoring segment. Those numbers reflected the challenge Alton presented throughout the match.
East Alton-Wood River stayed competitive behind Steiner’s scores and continued to put together contributions in a difficult matchup. In shotgun competition, where consistency across rounds is often the difference, the Oilers saw that firsthand against an opponent that was able to maintain the edge on the final board.
Even in the loss, Steiner’s showing stood out as a clear highlight for East Alton-Wood River. The Oilers are now 4-6 on the Trap Season and will look to build on that as the season continues and turn strong individual rounds into stronger team results in upcoming meets.
