Brown earns state medal for Oilers at Illinois Top Times Indoor Championships
East Alton-Wood River’s Jasiah Brown qualified for the Illinois Top Times Indoor Championships. He placed eighth in the triple jump to earn all-state honors at the indoor state meet Saturday in Bloomington.
Brown recorded a jump of 42 feet, 11 1/2 inches in the strongest field in the state, giving the Oilers a medal-winning finish at Illinois’ most competitive indoor event. The Illinois Top Times Indoor Championships serves as the state meet for the indoor season, and Brown had qualified earlier this winter to earn a place in the prestigious field.
Facing the state’s top triple jumpers, Brown delivered East Alton-Wood River’s signature performance of the day. His mark held up for eighth place statewide, a significant accomplishment at a meet that brings together qualifiers from across Illinois. The finish made Brown a state medalist and capped a strong indoor season for the Oilers standout.
The result also underscored the level required simply to reach the meet. Qualifying for Top Times is an achievement on its own, and Brown followed that by producing on the state stage against elite competition. His 42-11 1/2 stood as both a high-level performance and the kind of effort East Alton-Wood River carried into the championship setting.
For the Oilers, Brown’s podium-level finish provided a clear highlight in Bloomington and a strong close to the indoor campaign. An eighth-place finish at the state meet gives East Alton-Wood River a medal-winning performance to build on as the season turns forward.
