WOOD RIVER, Ill. - East Alton-Wood River capped Norris Dorsey Field Dedication Day with a walk-off finish Friday, as Kameren Johnson singled home Zane Bartz in the bottom of the seventh to give the Oilers a 4-3 win over Bunker Hill at Norris Dorsey Field at Emerick Sports Complex.
The winning rally started with Bartz reaching base, and Johnson delivered the decisive hit to end it. The Oilers also got production from the bottom of the lineup, with Johnson, Bartz and Austin Woods all collecting hits in a game that stayed tight into the final inning.
Johnson finished 2 for 3 with two RBIs, including the game-winner. Bartz went 2 for 3 with a double and two runs scored, and he also earned the win on the mound after allowing three runs over five innings in relief while striking out seven. Keaton Magurany added a double in a 1-for-3 day and turned in a strong defensive effort at third base.
East Alton-Wood River’s defense helped preserve the chance for a late comeback. Strong plays in the sixth and seventh innings by Magurany, Kale Carpenter, Johnny Sessons and Johnson kept Bunker Hill from adding on and kept the score within reach heading to the bottom of the seventh.
The game carried added significance beyond the result. Friday marked Norris Dorsey Field Dedication Day, with coach Norris Dorsey in attendance for a pregame ceremony naming the field in his honor. After the ceremony, Dorsey briefly addressed the crowd and thanked those in attendance before the Oilers followed with a fitting finish on a clear, cool evening in Wood River.
