Oilers post strong individual marks at Roxana triangular
East Alton-Wood River turned a smaller Tuesday meet at Roxana into a productive night of results, with the Oiler girls finishing second and the boys taking third in a triangular that also included Staunton. The meet served as a chance to rest some regular contributors after a busy two-week stretch while giving others expanded opportunities in events they do not always run during larger invitationals.
The girls produced a series of standout performances, led by Brooklyn Rexford’s big night across three events. Rexford posted a personal record of 15 feet, 11 inches in the long jump and also ran personal-best times of 28.4 seconds in the 200 meters and 13.5 in the 100, a strong showing for the freshman. Kylah Wreath added a first-place finish in the shot put, again clearing 30 feet, while Emalyn Murphy recorded a personal record in the shot put. Addison Roethe delivered double personal records in the shot put and discus, and Avery Raymer matched that with PRs in both throws as well.
EAWR also saw major progress on the track. Eleanor Brame turned in one of the night’s biggest improvements with a 6:28 effort in the 1,600 meters, good for a significant personal record. In the 400 meters, Ami Parsons, Braelyn Hartkopf, Tara Jones and Gabby Johnson all set personal records, giving the Oilers a deep collection of breakthroughs in the sprint group.
On the boys side, the Oilers came away with two first-place finishes. Jasiah Brown won the triple jump, and EAWR’s 4x200 relay team of Brown, Tavis Brown, Lucas Heaton and Carson LeMond took first in a personal-record performance. LeBron Reed added a lifetime best in the 800 meters, finishing in 2:06.5, while Matthew Bush set a personal record in the discus and Ryan Burney posted a PR in the shot put.
For East Alton-Wood River, the night was less about team scoring than development, and the results reflected that approach. The Oilers still left Roxana with multiple event wins, relay success and a long list of personal bests heading into a busier stretch of the schedule.
EAWR will travel to Sparta on Friday for a large invitational, then compete Monday in the Madison County Championships at Madison High School.
