Junior High Prospectors Meet Goals in Heppner as James Places 12th
Our Grant Union High School runners accomplished goals and began thinking about new ones during our trip to Heppner on Thursday, Oct. 8. Six runners represented Junior High Prospectors Athletics in the race. The outing brought our athletes onto a course with its own challenges, adding a different racing experience to their season.
It was a hot, sunny day, with dust, alfalfa and a water feature to run through along the course. Those features made this race different from a run on a uniform surface, giving our runners several distinct conditions to experience along the way. Each course offers something different, and each athlete gets to decide which features they enjoy. In Heppner, the experience included both dry, dusty terrain and a passage through water.
Shayann Gosnell led our two girls in the race, with Nox Long also representing the Prospectors. For both runners, the Heppner outing combined competition with the chance to experience another course’s particular demands. Gosnell’s lead finish among our girls was one of the individual highlights of the day.
Blaine James was our top boys runner, earning a 12th-place finish. Ezra Randleas, Oliver LaFramboise and David Archibald completed our four-runner boys group. Beyond James’ finish, the other three boys placed close together in the race, with Randleas, LaFramboise and Archibald giving the Prospectors a closely grouped set of finishes.
