Landon Places Eighth as Prospectors Build a Strong Pack in Heppner
JOHN_DAY, Ore. - Landon placed eighth to lead Grant Union High School’s boys cross country team Thursday, Oct. 8, in Heppner, with the Prospectors’ top four runners finishing in a tight pack. Both of the team’s girls runners moved up through the field during their races.
Landon finished in 18:32, followed by Riggin in 19:21, Tommy in 19:24 and Osmar in 19:45. Riggin and Tommy crossed just three seconds apart, giving the Prospectors a closely matched pair behind their lead runner. The first four finishers were separated by 1:13, establishing the pack that Grant Union wants to build around as it works toward improving its district standing.
Kaleb completed the boys’ scoring five in 22:08. With the first five runners counting toward the team score, the next priority is bringing the fifth finisher closer to that lead group. Kaleb finished 2:23 behind Osmar, and getting Kaleb into the 19-minute range is the team’s stated target for moving up in the district standings.
Kaitlyn clocked 24:12 and Amaris finished in 24:44 as the only two Prospectors competing in the girls race. Both delivered strong performances while gaining positions during the race, providing a positive individual showing despite the limited lineup.
The girls team is seeded first for the upcoming 4 Rivers meet, with Eliza listed as the first-place individual seed. All five girls are planning to race, expanding the lineup from the two who competed in Heppner. The Prospectors compete next at the 4 Rivers meet on Thursday.
