Returning Riders Set the Pace for Local Cycling Team’s Preseason Training

Birkan Ertoy | KOIN 6 News | Aug 14, 2026

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - A familiar group of returning riders is setting the pace as the local cycling team prepares for a new season. With coaches emphasizing consistency, overall fitness and race strategy, preseason training is focused on building the foundation needed for a demanding schedule. The work isn’t only about getting stronger. Riders are also learning how to make smart decisions when races tighten and every move matters.

Several experienced cyclists are expected to lead the team again, providing stability through training and into competition. Their familiarity with the program gives the group a steady starting point, while their race experience can help reinforce expectations for preparation and execution. That leadership will be especially useful as the team works to turn regular training sessions into better positioning, sharper tactics and more consistent performances.

Younger riders will also have room to take on larger roles. Their development could give the team more depth across both individual and team events, particularly as the schedule begins to test the full roster. The preseason offers those cyclists valuable time to improve their fitness, understand race situations and show they’re ready for increased responsibility.

The first real checkpoints will arrive early. Several opening races include matchups with some of the strongest teams in the region, giving coaches and riders an immediate look at how well their preseason preparation carries into competition. Those events should reveal where the team has made progress, where its strategy is working and which areas still need attention.

With an experienced core returning and younger cyclists preparing to contribute, the team enters the season with cautious optimism. There is confidence in the foundation, but also a clear understanding that improvement must continue after the preseason ends. For now, the goal is straightforward: stay consistent, build fitness and be ready when the strongest regional competition provides the first major test.
