Zoe Northrup Sets the Standard for Cascade Volleyball

Payton Aeby | Cascade High School | Oct 13, 2026

Quick feet, fast reactions and an ability to energize everyone around her make Zoe Northrup stand out for Cascade High School volleyball. The sophomore starting setter consistently gets under the ball quickly, giving the Cougars a steady presence at the center of their offense. Just as importantly, she brings an enthusiasm that lifts teammates and reflects the pride she takes in representing Cascade.

Northrup has been building toward this role since elementary school, when she first began playing volleyball. Her development carried her to the varsity team as a freshman, an impressive step for a young player taking on the demands of high school competition. She emerged as one of Cascade's primary setters during that first season and now enters her sophomore year as the starting setter.

The setter position rewards anticipation, composure and athleticism, qualities Northrup continues to demonstrate through her quick movement to the ball. Her responsibility extends beyond making the second contact. By putting teammates in position to attack, she helps shape the rhythm of each rally and connects the Cougars' defense to their offense.

"I looked up to Irene because she was very good and I want to be like her some day"

Zoe Northrup also continues sharpening her game beyond the school season. She plays club volleyball for Level One Volleyball during the offseason, gaining additional repetitions and experience that she can bring back to Cascade. Her long-term inspiration is Irene, Cascade's starting setter last year, who went on to compete at the Division I level in beach volleyball. Northrup hopes to follow a similar path one day.

That ambition is matched by the positive impact Northrup already makes throughout the Cascade program. She gets teammates excited and serves as a role model for younger players on the junior varsity and JV2 teams. As the Cougars prepare to play on the road against Central at 6:00 p.m. tonight, Northrup will carry forward the energy, work ethic and setting skill that have defined her journey so far.
