Multiple Dogies Earn Woody’s Honors Through Preparation and Playmaking

Allen Von Eye | Newcastle High School | Oct 2, 2026

Multiple Dogies are standing out for more than their work on Friday nights. Newcastle High School’s Woody’s Players of the Game honorees through the first three weeks have distinguished themselves with touchdowns, defensive stops, special teams contributions and hours of preparation. The awards recognize the work our players put in throughout the week, from studying film to learning each game plan and helping teammates improve in practice.

Multiple contributions highlighted the Week 1 Glenrock game. Freshman Braxton Von earned Scout Player recognition after watching more than 1½ hours of film and playing a large role in game preparations as scout team TE/WR. Senior Dane Crabtree was the Defensive Player of the game with 17 defensive points and Junior Colten Hatheway had Offensive Player of the Game honors catching four passes for 80 yards and a touchdown. Carter Farella, a Junior, was named Lineman of the Game. Senior Captain Mason Rawhouser earned Special Teams Player honors with 30 defensive points, a sack, a forced fumble, two blocked kicks and a Special Teams touchdown. That performance showcased an ability to make plays across several phases of the game.

Multiple honorees continued that effort in Week 2 against Tongue River. Starting with Sophomore Davyn Hoffman, who earned the Scout Player award with more than an hour of film study and through always knowing the opponent's playbook. Crabtree received the offensive honor, contributing 98 passing yards and a rushing touchdown. Rawhouser was named Lineman of the Game and Sophomore Dylan Hespe was named Defensive Player of the Game. Freshman Tanner Lenardson earned Special Teams Player recognition with several good punts, adding another important contribution to the Dogies’ weekly award list.

Braxton Von Eye (Scout), Dane Crabtree (Defense), Colten Hatheway (Offense), Mason Rawhouser (ST), Carter Farella (Lineman)
Tongue River Players of the Game: Tanner Lenardson (ST), Dane Crabtree (Offense), Mason Rawhouser (D), Davyn Hoffman (Scout)
Brayton Von Eye (Scout), Lukas Benshoof (Defense), Landon Hatheway (ST), Dane Crabtree (Offense), Mason Rawhouser (Lineman)

Multiple players earned recognition against Torrington in Week 3, with preparation again part of the story. Freshman Brayton Von Eye received the Scout Player honor after more than an hour of film study, completing the week’s installations, and playing scout team QB. Senior Landon Hatheway earned the special teams award, while Junior Lukas Benshoof was the Defensive Player of the Game and Rawhouser was named Lineman of the Week again. Crabtree added another offensive award with 52 passing yards, a touchdown and 121 rushing yards. Across these weeks, our honorees have often ranked among the team’s leaders in film-study hours and installation work, bringing that commitment into daily practice.

These Dogies share in a recognition tradition supported by Kelly and Kurtis Wood, owners of Woody’s Food Center, who have sponsored the Players of the Game awards for more than 15 years. Their support also includes catering our Mallo Fall Camp, connecting these weekly honors to a broader commitment to the football program. For our players, the awards celebrate both visible game-day accomplishments and the preparation that helps make the team better. Woody’s continued involvement gives our community another reason to take pride in the work behind each Dogie performance.
