Valley Forge’s Nevaeh Hall delivered the biggest moment of the day Sunday at the OHSAA State Championships in Columbus, winning the girls long jump in dramatic fashion with her final attempt. Competing in mainly clear conditions, Hall reached 18 feet, 9 inches on the last jump of the meet to secure the state championship by a half-inch and cap a standout day for the Patriots.
The event turned in the final round. Hall entered the closing jumps in contention, but the lead changed when Samantha Singleton of Solon posted a mark of 18 feet, 8.5 inches on her last attempt. Hall answered immediately, soaring 18-9 on the final jump of the competition to move back in front and claim the title. The late reversal gave Valley Forge its signature highlight of the state meet.
Hall’s day did not end with the long jump championship. She also placed fifth in the 100-meter dash in 11.94 seconds and took fourth in the 200-meter dash in 24.64, giving Valley Forge points and high-level finishes across three events. Her range was evident throughout the meet, from the explosiveness needed on the runway to the speed she showed in both sprint finals.
Valley Forge also received a state-meet performance from Delaney Kercher, who finished 10th in the high jump at 5 feet, 2 inches. The placement added another finals result for the Patriots on a day when the program was represented in multiple events against a large field at the season’s biggest stage.
For Valley Forge, the meet was defined by Hall’s championship response under pressure. With the title on the line and the lead already gone in the final round, she produced the best jump of her day at exactly the right moment. That closing leap gave the Patriots a state champion and punctuated a strong overall showing in Columbus.
