Warner University Royals Narrowly Defeated in SUN Conference Duel Against Webber International

In a gripping match-up on the Jessica Costanzo Court, the Warner University Royals faced a closely contested bout against the Webber International Warriors, ultimately falling short with a final score of 85-82. The game, part of the SUN Conference play, unfolded with high tension and strategic gameplay on February 22, 2025.

From the onset, Warner surged ahead with impactful plays including an early layup from Tamara Bryant, assisted by Courtney Logan. The Royals demonstrated solid three-point shooting, with Bethany Howard and Julia Gilbert leading the charge; Gilbert notably continuing her strong performance with crucial three-pointers in the third period. Despite entering halftime trailing slightly at 42-44, the Royals kept the pressure on.

Bethany Howard, leading the team with 24 points and an astounding 26 rebounds, was a dominant force throughout the game. Courtney Logan also made significant contributions with 19 points, 7 assists, and topped the team’s steals with 3. Additional support came from Julia Gilbert with 17 points and Aalyah Watson, who rounded out a solid effort with 11 points and 5 assists.

The final period was marked by a spirited comeback attempt by Warner, highlighted by Julia Gilbert's late three-pointer that brought the Royals within a whisper of a tie. However, precise free throw shooting by the Warriors in the closing moments sealed their victory.

Despite the loss, the Royals displayed commendable spirit and resilience. Warner now turns their focus to their next challenge, facing St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens on February 25. As the Royals move forward, they hold a current season record of 9-17, with a SUN Conference tally of 5-11. Fans remain hopeful for a strong finish to the season as the team continues to show growth and strong potential on the court.
