Warner University Softball Opens Season with Challenging Doubleheader Against Thomas University
In a challenging start to the season, Warner University's softball team faced off against Thomas University in a doubleheader on February 7, 2025, at Daly Field in Lake Wales, FL. The Royals, under the guidance of their mascot, the Royals, struggled to clinch a win, resulting in Thomas University securing victories in both games with scores of 7-4 and 8-2 respectively.
In the first game of the day, Warner players G. Derstine, A. Garbarek, and T. Mooring drove in the runs for the Royals, showcasing their skill despite the tough competition. Garbarek, along with Derstine and Mooring, also contributed with RBIs, highlighting their critical roles in the team's offense. A standout performance was given by A. Garbarek, who hit a significant 2-RBI double in the 5th inning, demonstrating clutch performance under pressure.
Adding to the dramatics, A. Buncy hammered a homerun in the 6th inning of the second game, which served as a pivotal moment for Warner. Despite these efforts, the day belonged to the Nighthawks as they leveraged strong batting and consistent play to overpower the Royals.
K. Garman started as pitcher for Warner, facing a formidable Thomas lineup. While the losses were a tough pill to swallow, they set a clear focus for the Royals as they look to regroup and harness their strengths in subsequent games.
