Florida Gateway College put the game away early and never let Point find the end zone in a 33-0 flag football win Saturday, April 11. The decisive stretch came in the first quarter, when Florida Gateway scored twice through the air and built a 13-0 lead that set the tone for a shutout driven by explosive passing and timely defensive stops.
The box score showed how efficient Florida Gateway was. The home side scored in the first, third and fourth quarters, finishing with a 13-0-7-13 line, while producing 275 passing yards and five passing touchdowns on just 26 total plays. Florida Gateway averaged 10.4 yards per play and turned 13 completions into a steady stream of big plays, even while Point controlled possession for 28:09 and ran 52 plays.
Emma Clough helped spark the fast start. With 11:12 left in the first quarter, Clough connected with Layla West for a 61-yard touchdown, the game’s first major strike. Later in the quarter, the same pair connected again for another touchdown, and the point-after kick was good to push the margin to 13-0. Clough finished 5-for-7 passing for 105 yards and three touchdowns, adding 5 rushing yards, while West turned three catches into 82 yards, two receiving touchdowns and two interceptions.
Florida Gateway extended the lead in the second half by continuing to spread the ball around. A passing touchdown by Clough in the third quarter kept the pressure on, and Katelyn Jewell added another scoring throw during the period. Jewell finished 5-for-9 for 117 yards and two touchdowns, giving Florida Gateway a productive second option at quarterback. The offense’s balance within the passing game showed up in the receiving totals, with multiple players accounting for touchdowns and chunk gains.
Nichelle Brown delivered one of the most complete performances of the afternoon. Brown caught four passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns, and also posted 10 tackles on defense. Her fourth-quarter touchdown reception, followed by a successful pass PAT from Martha Edwards with 2:54 remaining, capped the scoring. Brown’s production, along with West’s two-way impact, highlighted a Florida Gateway defense that held Point scoreless despite allowing 227 passing yards.
Point moved the ball at times, finishing with 205 total yards, 12 first downs and 28 completions credited across team totals, but Florida Gateway consistently closed drives. Point went 3-of-11 on third down and 2-of-6 on fourth down, while Florida Gateway added an interception and a sack. Corriah Williams threw for 218 yards for Point, and Chinera Shaheed had eight receptions for 78 yards, but Florida Gateway’s defense prevented the kind of finish that could shift momentum. Instead, the Warriors’ side of the game belonged to the pass game from the opening quarter through Brown’s late score, the final touch on a 33-0 result.
