Williamsburg Lady Wildcats Triumph in State Tournament Opener
In an impressive display of skill and teamwork, the Williamsburg High School Lady Wildcats varsity softball team clinched a decisive victory over the Mariemont Warriors in the opening round of the D-5 OHSAA State tournament. The game, held at their home grounds on May 12, 2025, concluded with a staggering 20-0 win for the Wildcats. From the outset, Williamsburg dominated the field under cloudy skies, showcasing a strong offensive and defensive lineup. Player contributions were significant, with K. Anderkin leading the team and celebrating a milestone of 100 career varsity hits. The scoring included three runs from both M. Shoemake and J. Johnson, who also joined KK Pollitt, A. Vearil, and G. Graves in driving in crucial runs. Notably, Pollitt, Vearil, Shoemake, and Johnson each hit a homerun, amplifying the team's lead. A. Vearil not only shone as a starting pitcher but also scored two runs and contributed an RBI, proving instrumental in this convincing win. The team's robust performance is reflected in their current record of 19 wins to 3 losses. Looking ahead, the Wildcats are set to face the Georgetown Lady G-Men on May 14, 2025, at Williamsburg High School, hoping to maintain their winning momentum in the state championship pursuit.
