HAPPY VALLEY, Ore. - Adrienne C. Nelson High School answered an early deficit with five first-half goals to take charge of a 6-1 soccer victory over Reynolds on Thursday, Oct. 15. Vivienne Walczak led the Hawks with two goals and one assist.
Reynolds scored the opening goal, but the Hawks responded with six unanswered goals across the two halves. Crystal Farfan began the comeback with Nelson's first goal, bringing the teams level before the Hawks moved ahead for good. Five different Nelson players scored during the first half, turning the early setback into a 5-1 halftime lead.
Lauren Puerta supplied the assist for Walczak's first goal, which put the Hawks in front. Walczak then contributed as a distributor, assisting Eva Lippman on the next goal. That exchange gave Nelson a 3-1 advantage and put both of its leading contributors on the scoresheet before the first-half attack produced two more goals.
Lippman set up Samantha Walker and Harper Gelbrich for Eva Lippman' two assists before halftime. Lippman finished with one goal and two assists, contributing directly to three of Nelson's six goals. Her consecutive assists extended the lead from two goals to four heading into the break.
Walczak completed her two-goal performance in the second half off an assist from Ashley Boyer. Nelson held Reynolds scoreless after the opening goal and carried its four-goal halftime cushion through the second half while adding the final score. The Hawks play David Douglas next on Tuesday, Oct. 20.
