Nelson Puts Six-Game Winning Streak on Line Against Sprague
HAPPY VALLEY, Ore. - Adrienne C. Nelson High School (6-1) hosts Sprague (4-3) on Friday, Oct. 23, in a non-league football matchup between teams riding winning streaks and carrying 3-0 league records. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. PDT.
The Hawks have won six straight, most recently powering past Central Catholic with a rushing attack that produced a combined 250 yards from Kevin Cohen and Jalen Crichton. That performance gives Nelson an established approach heading into a matchup with a big, physical Sprague team. The challenge will be creating room for Cohen and Crichton against an opponent that enters with three consecutive victories.
Nelson's offensive line will be central to that effort. Seniors Gavin Bradley and Eli Escobar, juniors Max Fanger and Lyric Samuelu and fellow lineman Chase Stanley paved the way against Central Catholic. Their work gave the Hawks production from two runners rather than leaving the ground game dependent on one ball carrier. Repeating that blocking performance will be a key part of Nelson's bid to extend its streak.
The line-of-scrimmage matchup puts a specific test in front of the Hawks: turn last week's rushing success into another productive night against Sprague's size and physicality. Friday's meeting also offers Nelson a chance to increase their winning streak to 7 games, heading into the season finale against Clackamas on 10/30.
