Armijo High School Theatre Productions is bringing plenty of energy, humor and school pride to the stage with its spring musical, Once Upon a Mattress, and the Royals are heading into the show’s final weekend with excitement building around the production. With just two performances remaining, the musical has become a standout arts event on campus, giving audiences one more chance to catch a lively retelling of the classic fairy-tale story.

The final performances are scheduled for Friday, March 27, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m. at Armijo High School, 824 Washington St. in Fairfield. Saturday’s event is listed as the Spring Musical, and the weekend setting should provide a fitting close to the production’s run. Forecast conditions call for clear skies with temperatures ranging from 52 to 81 degrees, setting up a pleasant night for families, friends and community supporters coming out to cheer on the Royals.

While this recap centers on the production’s final stretch rather than festival scores or formal judging results, the biggest takeaway is the opportunity Armijo students have created through their work on Once Upon a Mattress. A musical like this asks a lot from a student cast and crew, from timing and vocal performance to staging, costumes and comedic delivery. Armijo Theatre Productions has clearly assembled a show the school community is proud of, and the final two performances now carry the special buzz that comes when a cast knows its time together onstage is almost complete.

That sense of occasion matters in school theater, where every show reflects both individual effort and a larger team achievement. Productions succeed because performers commit to their roles, backstage crews keep scenes moving, and directors and student leaders shape the rhythm of the night. For Armijo, this musical run has given the Royals a chance to showcase that full group effort while also celebrating the creativity and confidence that live theater brings out in students.

For community members who have not yet seen the show, the message from Armijo Theatre Productions is simple: don’t miss it. With only two shows to go, Once Upon a Mattress is nearing its final curtain, and Friday, March 27, and Saturday, March 28, both at 7:30 p.m., are the last opportunities to see this Armijo High School production on stage in Fairfield.
