Badger Lightning Falls to Coulee Region Cyclones

The Badger Lightning High School Lightning Girls Hockey fell to the Coulee Region Cyclones on Monday at Pierce Park Pavilion in Baraboo. In a game that featured a strong defensive showing initially, the Lightning couldn't secure a win, with the final score marking 0-4 in favor of the Cyclones. The first period ended with a deadlock at 0-0, highlighting a tough defensive battle between both teams. However, the momentum shifted in the second period when the Cyclones managed to score the first goal at the end of the period. Entering the third period with a 1-0 lead, the Cyclones found their stride and put three more goals past the Lightning, the first of which came on a power play. These goals proved decisive with a 4-0 victory by the game's conclusion. The Coulee Region Cyclones showed remarkable performance, with all their goals scored in the latter half of the game. Despite the setback, the Badger Lightning demonstrated resiliency and determination. They are preparing for their next opportunity to clinch their first win of the season. Olivia Renneberg's performance in the game was a special one. Throughout the game Olivia made save after save keeping the game tied at 0-0 and keeping her team in the hunt. Despite letting in four goals, Olivia played a vital role in the game staying tight for as long as it was. She ended up having 33 saves on 37 shots. In the JV game that followed the Varsity game, the Badger Lightning showed poise and determination. Ultimately they fell 4-2, but the puck movement and zone control shows promise for the young group. Lydia Falde and Caydence Putz both netted goals for the Badger Lightning. The JV Badger Lightning scored first on a power play goal thanks to Lydia Falde. The Cyclones scored shortly after to knot the game at 1 apiece. The Cyclones netted two more goals to make the lead 3-1. Late in the game, Caydence Putz netted the second goal of the game for the Lightning. the Badger Lighting pulled their goaltender to get an extra attacker. Even with some great looks at tying, the Cyclones took advantage of the empty net by firing a shot from their zone to net the fourth and final goal for them. Despite the losses, the coaching staff is excited for what the Badger Lightning can do this season with great team chemistry and resilience. The next game for the Badger Lightning is scheduled for November 29, where they will face the Northland Pines Eagles at Pierce Park Pavilion in Baraboo. This event could serve as a turnaround for the team, as they aim to improve their current record of 0-1.
