Badger Lightning Secures First Postseason Win at Home Since 2012

In a thrilling WIAA Regional hockey face-off at Pierce Park on Thursday night, the Badger Lightning clinched a hard-fought victory over the Stoughton Icebergs with a final score of 3-2. This win marked the Lightning's first postseason victory at home since 2012, emphasizing the significant progress the team has made this season. The game started off tightly with neither team able to break the deadlock in the first period. The second period saw the teams exchange goals, leaving the score tied at 1-1. Kjersten Hagen found the net late in the second, and early in the third period to turn the game in the Lightning's favor. Reese Olson scored the decisive game-winning goal in the third period. Assists came from Elizabeth Haag, Dayana Wade, and Jenna Garbacz, contributing to the team's pivotal moments. The Icebergs did not go down easily. With 1:48 remaining in the third period, the Lightning were assessed a penalty. The Icebergs pulled their goalie for a 6-on-4 advantage, but the Lightning's disciplined penalty kill unit held strong, fending off the Icebergs' flurry, and securing the win. Lightning goalie, Olivia Renneberg, played a crucial role in this victory, facing significant pressure, especially in the game's intense final moments. With this victory, the Badger Lightning improve their season record to 10-12. The team's next challenge is set for Tuesday, February 25, against the Cap City Cougars in Sun Prairie.
