Badger Lightning Secures Victory Over Madison Metro Lynx in Girls Varsity Hockey

In a display of skill and teamwork, the Badger Lightning varsity girls' hockey team clinched a decisive 3-1 victory against the Madison Metro Lynx at the Madison Ice Arena on February 4, 2025. This Badger Conference matchup saw the Lightning overcome an early goal by the Lynx, before taking control in the second period. The first period ended in a deadlock with neither team managing to score. However, the game's momentum shifted dramatically in the second period. Madison Metro Lynx's Scout Elmer broke the ice with a goal just 22 seconds into the period. Undeterred, the Lightning responded with a striking display of offensive prowess. Reese Olson initiated the comeback with a goal at 10:24, assisted by Kayla Garbacz. Shortly after, Emma Diehl, assisted by Sophie Gesicki, not only scored but also netted what would become the game-winning goal. Elizabeth Haag rounded out the scoring spree with a goal at 12:04, assisted by Dayana Wade, firmly securing the lead for Badger. Goalkeepers Olivia Renneberg and Addy Buzzell from Badger Lightning and Madison Metro Lynx respectively, showcased their skills between the pipes. Their efforts were crucial, but Renneberg's contribution was particularly key in maintaining the lead after the initial goal surge. With this win, the Lightning's record now stands at 8-12. They look forward to continuing their momentum as they prepare for their next contest against Viroqua in Reedsburg on February 10.
