Baraboo High School Boys Varsity Track and Field Finishes 5th at Badger Challenge Invitational

Joe Becraft | Baraboo | Apr 18, 2025

On a challenging windy and cold day at Bob Mael Field in Portage, Wisconsin, the Baraboo High School Boys Varsity Track and Field team secured the 5th position out of 13 strong competitors during the Badger Challenge Invitational on April 15, 2025. The Thunderbirds displayed commendable performances across multiple events despite the conditions.

The event saw Elliott Romberg put forth outstanding efforts, finishing 2nd in the 110 High Hurdles with a personal best time of 15.48 seconds and claiming 3rd place in the 300 hurdles with a time of 42.33 seconds. Romberg also achieved a 4th place finish in the long jump event, marking at 19 feet 6 inches. Aiden Dineen showcased significant improvement, securing a 4th position in the shot put with a personal best of 41 feet 9 inches.

The Baraboo relay teams were another highlight, particularly the 4x8 team consisting of Ben Meise, Tanner Goeckermann, Killian Duncan, and Jacob Greenwood, who captured 2nd place with a time of 8:49 minutes. The 4x4 team, composed of Travon Lawyer, Isaiah Romano-Thompson, Max Justus, and Goeckermann, also placed well, finishing 4th with a time of 3:39 minutes. An individual shoutout is deserved for Max Justus, who placed 4th in the 400m run clocking in at 54.44 seconds.

Coach Joe Becraft remained highly optimistic about his team's capabilities, stating, "Really excited about the way our team came out and battled through a really cold and windy night. It's really special when you have nights like that and there are 40 of your classmates cheering for athletes as they come across the finish line. This team has a really good attitude towards competition and are just as fired up for a teammate's best day as their own. Tonight exemplified that."

Looking ahead, the Thunderbirds are gearing up for their next challenge set for April 22, 2025, at McFarland High School where they will face competitors from McFarland, Milton, and Monona Grove.
