Baraboo High School Thunderbirds Narrowly Defeated in Post-Season Soccer Against Reedsburg Beavers

Katie Cummings | Baraboo | Jun 6, 2025

In a closely contested post-season soccer event, the Baraboo High School Thunderbirds faced a challenging match against their rivals, the Reedsburg Beavers, on June 3, 2025. Despite the intense heat and sunny conditions that day in Reedsburg, the Baraboo varsity girls showcased a stellar performance in what was described by their coach as their best game all season. The first half of the game was a defensive battle with neither team able to break through the other's defense, leading to a halftime score of 0-0. Both teams had opportunities, but the goalkeepers, including Baraboo's Leah Hess, showed excellent skill in keeping the game scoreless. In the second half, the game's pace intensified as both teams sought the lead. Kylee Hollenbeck-Smith managed to find the net for Baraboo in the loan penalty kick of the game, marking an important moment for the Thunderbirds. However, Reedsburg responded by securing two goals, leading to a final score of 2-1 in favor of the Beavers. Tyler Lang, the coach of Baraboo, expressed immense pride in the team's effort: "Even though our season came to an end on Tuesday, it was the best game we played all season. I'm proud of how hard the girls battled and competed throughout the entirety of the event. We challenged Reedsburg well and played with no regrets." Despite the loss that ended their season with a record of 4-14-1, the spirit of the Thunderbirds remained high as they demonstrated resilience and teamwork in a tough away environment. The team gathered for a poignant moment of togetherness post-event, a testament to their unity and sportsmanship throughout the season.
