Baraboo High School Thunderbirds Set for Badger Challenge Showdown

Joe Becraft | Baraboo | Apr 15, 2025

The Baraboo High School Thunderbirds are gearing up for an exciting early-season track and field meet at the Badger Challenge, hosted at Portage High School on April 15, 2025. The challenge will feature an array of talented athletes from schools across the conference, including Baraboo’s own standout competitors. Led by Head Coach Joe Becraft, the Thunderbirds will bring a mix of seasoned athletes and promising newcomers to the fore. Among the key athletes to watch are Elliott Romberg, competing in the 110 high hurdles, 300 intermediate hurdles, and both long and triple jump events. Isaiah Romano-Thompson will showcase his skills in the 400 and long jump, while AJ Elliott is set to sprint in the 100m and 200m dashes. "It's always a great opportunity to see every team in the conference come together this early and then again in 5 weeks for the conference championship. This is a really competitive collection of teams and even those not projected to be high finishing overall have some athletes who can go out and be medal winners. We try to find the perfect mix of bringing a team that will score a ton of points while also letting some of our newer guys get the opportunity and put up some personal bests. Every event it feels likes someone has a guy represented in the top end of the state" Coach Becraft commented on the upcoming meet. As the Thunderbirds participate in this significant event, all eyes will be on their performance, setting the stage for what promises to be a highly competitive season in the Badger Small Conference.
