Baraboo High School Volleyball Thunderbirds Narrowly Defeated in Season Opener

In a fiercely contested season opener at Baraboo High School, the Thunderbirds varsity volleyball team faced a tough match against Deforest High School Norskies on September 4, 2025. Despite a strong showing, Baraboo was narrowly defeated with a final score of 3-2 in favor of Deforest. The match commenced with the Thunderbirds taking an early lead, winning the first set 25-22. However, the Norskies came back strong in the second set, overpowering Baraboo 25-9. The third set was tightly contested, but Deforest managed to edge out a win, 25-21. Not backing down, the Thunderbirds rallied in the fourth set to claim a 25-22 victory, pushing the match to a deciding fifth set. Unfortunately for Baraboo, Deforest clinched the match with a 15-8 win in the final set. Key players for Baraboo included Sabrina Hartmann, who showcased remarkable skills with 9 kills and 7 blocks. Kaya Weber and Makennah Peterson also contributed significantly, with Weber registering 8 kills and 3 blocks and Peterson adding 6 kills and 3 blocks. The defensive efforts were led by Brinley Kaufman and Rylee Green, each with 11 digs, while Presley Zimmerman excelled in setting with 30 assists.
