Baraboo rallies in second half but falls 2-1 at Tomah

Tomah built a two-goal first-half lead, then held off a late push from Baraboo for a 2-1 win Thursday in a varsity girls soccer match.

The Thunderbirds trailed 2-0 at halftime but responded with a much sharper second half. After regrouping at the break and focusing on what needed to improve collectively and individually, Baraboo showed better passing and communication across the field. That shift helped the Thunderbirds control more of the play and keep Tomah off the board after halftime.

Baraboo broke through when Nina, wearing No. 3, scored on an assist from Maya, No. 18, trimming the deficit to 2-1. The goal gave the Thunderbirds momentum, and the pressure continued to build as Baraboo created several close scoring chances in its push for an equalizer.

Although the comeback stopped short, the defensive effort after the break stood out. Baraboo recorded its third straight second-half shutout, an encouraging sign for a team that showed resilience while settling into the season. Holding Tomah scoreless over the final 40 minutes gave the Thunderbirds a foundation to build on even in defeat.
