Baraboo Thunderbirds Boys Cross Country Team Finishes 7th at WIAA D1 Sectional Championship
The Baraboo Thunderbirds Boys Cross Country team concluded their season with a robust performance at the WIAA D1 Sectional Championship, securing a 7th place finish. This event, held on October 25, 2025, at Verona High School, showcased a competitive field, with Baraboo competing against teams like DeForest, Verona, and Madison West among others.
Baraboo gathered a total of 205 points, with Will Boettcher leading the team with a remarkable time of 16:44.1, navigating through the challenging wet conditions of the course. Following him were his teammates Oskar LaFave and Jack Brinker, clocking in at 17:34.9 and 17:46.5, respectively. Jonatan Martinez and Joe Korthals also made significant contributions with their times of 18:14.0 and 18:38.6. An unexpected challenge was faced by LaFave during the race, as a large deer briefly collided with him, yet he persevered to finish as the 4th fastest freshman of the day.
Coach Boll expressed pride in the team’s overall accomplishments and the tenacity displayed by the runners throughout the season. Although Will Boettcher did not advance to the state competition, the coach emphasized his outstanding performance at the sectional meet, which stood out even against top-tier competitors.
