Julie Faylona | Baraboo | Sep 16, 2025

The Baraboo Thunderbirds witnessed a remarkable performance this Saturday during the competitive cross country meet in Spring Green. At their recent engagement in the River Valley Blackhawk Invite, Madilyn Gilbert made an exceptional mark by setting yet another new school record for the girls' 5K race. Madilyn broke the 20-minute barrier, finishing the race with a time of 19:55.7, This placed her 7th overall at the meet and earned her a medal; something that hasn't been achieved on the girls side since 2019. This was the second time Madi broke the school record this season, having previously set a new benchmark just 10 days earlier in Deforest. The performance has sparked enthusiasm within the team, with teammates praising her dedication and breakthrough performance. The varsity team's coach highlighted the strong progression of the team this season, with Madi leading the group and Taylor Sperl right behind her. Kenzie Dougherty, Sydney Dobush, and Rachel Byxbe rounded out our 5 Varsity point scorers for this meet. Sienna Lutz and Litzy Angel completed the 7 member Varsity team. This recent success has posed a significant advancement for the Baraboo Thunderbirds in the realm of cross country racing.
