Baraboo Thunderbirds Celebrate Coach Karll Kruse's Legacy
Baraboo High School marked a significant moment on September 8, 2025, by dedicating its tennis courts to the long-serving Head Boys and Girls Tennis Coach, Karll Kruse. The newly named 'Karll Kruse Courts' honor his venerable career spanning 44 years, culminating at a Baraboo School District school board meeting where the decision was passed unanimously.
Committed to Baraboo High School, Kruse has been a stalwart in shaping the tennis program, coaching approximately 1,200 student-athletes. His retirement as Head Boys Tennis Coach took place in June, after 43 years. A dedication to his teams was evident beyond the courts. According to a former player, David Wetzel, Kruse's commitment extended late into nights, balancing his role at Kruse Motors with coaching duties. Assistant coach Tom Steinhorst praised Kruse for his profound connection with the students and his palpable love for the sport.
Athletic Director Jim Langkamp commended Kruse's understanding of the deep impact of sports on students' lives, emphasizing how tennis served as a conduit for forming lasting memories. At the heart of the ceremonies and commendations, Kruse expressed his gratitude, reflecting on his extensive tenure with humility and surprise at its duration.
