Baraboo Thunderbirds Defeat Wausau East in High-Scoring Softball Showdown
The Baraboo Thunderbirds girls' varsity softball team triumphed over the Wausau East Lumberjacks with a decisive 12-5 victory on Saturday. Hosted at D.C. Everest High School, this non-conference clash saw the Thunderbirds enhance their season record to 3-4. From the onset, the Thunderbirds set the tone, amassing five runs in the initial inning, a key moment that heavily influenced the game's momentum. Standout performances came from several players, including Zeva Valley, who scored two runs and notched up as many RBIs. Emma Pichler was another integral player, contributing two hits, two RBIs, and scoring twice. Additionally, Liana Klemm impressed with a triple, alongside her two runs and two RBIs. Taytum Poker, the starting pitcher, exemplified resilience and prowess by delivering a complete game, further solidifying her central role in the team. Her performance, combined with a crucial early surge by the Thunderbirds, subdued the Lumberjacks throughout the contest. Looking ahead, the Baraboo Thunderbirds are set to face the McFarland Spartans at Pierce Park on Tuesday. The team hopes to carry momentum from this win as they return to Badger Small Conference action.
