Baraboo Thunderbirds Demonstrate Strong Performance in Scrimmage Against Wisconsin Dells Chiefs and Westfield Pioneers
In a strong display of skill and strategy, the Baraboo Thunderbirds showcased their capabilities in a scrimmage on Friday August 15, 2025. The event, hosted at Wisconsin Dells High School, featured the JV and Varsity Boys Football teams competing against two teams - the Wisconsin Dells Chiefs and the Westfield Pioneers. The weather was sunny and humid, creating challenging summer conditions for all teams involved. Despite these hurdles, Baraboo excelled both offensively and defensively. Baraboo's offense was a sight to behold, effectively executing their Wing-T offense through trap plays, outside sweep plays, and counter plays. Notably, one counter play left no defender in sight as the ball carrier sprinted to the end zone. The Baraboo defense was equally impressive, stifling the Dells QB with multiple sacks and collecting several tackles for loss and two interceptions throughout the day. The Thunderbirds' punter also made notable contributions, booming two punts nearly 50 yards deep. The scrimmage didn't feature a conventional scoreboard, but Baraboo's performance was dominant. They managed multiple touchdowns against both opponents and converted both extra point attempts. The defensive prowess of Baraboo was highlighted as they held Wisconsin Dells to zero touchdowns and allowed only one field goal while conceding just one touchdown to Westfield. The JV Thunderbirds, featuring freshmen at quarterback, were particularly formidable, scoring multiple impressive touchdowns and making countless amazing stops on defense. Looking ahead, the Baraboo Thunderbirds have their first games of the season scheduled on Thursday August 21 and Friday August 22, 2025. On Friday, the Varsity team will open regular season play against the Sauk Prairie Eagles at Sauk Prairie High School, while the JV and JV2 teams will host at Flambeau Field in Baraboo. JV2 plays at 5:00 pm on Thursday. JV plays at 7:00 pm. Varsity's kick-off on Friday will commence at 7:00 pm. These upcoming games promise to be a continuation of their strong start to the season.
