Baraboo Thunderbirds Face Tough Outing Against McFarland Spartans
In a challenging regular season soccer match, the Baraboo Thunderbirds faced off against the McFarland Spartans on a sunny yet brisk evening at William J. Rice Field. The varsity girls' team, led by goaltender Leah Hess, struggled to find their footing, ultimately conceding a 5-0 defeat on April 15, 2025. The Thunderbirds entered halftime trailing 3-0, a deficit that Coach Lang highlighted was a result of quick goals from set pieces that disillusioned the team. 'We matched up well defensively up until near halftime, and then we gave up three quick goals from set pieces that took a lot out of our sails. McFarland made it difficult for us to create attacking opportunities, so we will focus on that in practice moving forward,' remarked Coach Lang after the game. Despite the setback, the Thunderbirds are maintaining an even season with a current record of 3-3. Looking ahead, Baraboo is set to regroup and face Lake Mills on April 17, 2025, at Lake Mills. The team remains focused on addressing weaknesses and enhancing their attack strategy in preparation for their upcoming games. Senior defender Kennedy Klongland's effort in set pieces was a highlight of Tuesday's match, as captured in the evening's featured image.
