Baraboo Varsity Thunderbirds Face Setback in Swiss Kick Soccer Quad

Katie Cummings | Baraboo | May 19, 2025

On May 17, 2025, the Baraboo High School Thunderbirds' varsity girls soccer team competed against Delavan-Darien High School in the Swiss Kick Quad held at New Glarus High School. The Thunderbirds, led by goalie Leah Hess, faced challenging weather conditions with 55-degree temperatures, partly cloudy skies, and strong winds at 25 mph. By halftime, the Thunderbirds trailed the Comets with a score of 0-1. Despite a strong defensive effort led by sophomore Mallory Olson, who actively cleared the ball against increasing pressure, the Thunderbirds could not equalize or advance their position. Coach Lang expressed that the team struggled with creating attacking plays and emphasized the importance of pass connections and seizing every opportunity. The final score of 3-0 in favor of Delavan-Darien leaves the Thunderbirds with a season record of 4 wins and 12 losses. The team looks forward to addressing these challenges before their upcoming game against Edgewood on May 20, 2025, at Edgewood High School.
