Boys Hockey Faces Tough Loss Against Viroqua

Adam Stanton | Baraboo | Nov 27, 2025

In a gripping hockey encounter at Pierce Park on November 25, the Baraboo/Portage hockey team fell to the Viroqua Blackhawks with a final score of 6-4 in a regular season game. Despite the home team advantage, the Thunderbirds struggled to contain the offensive pressure from the Blackhawks. The game started off slow for Baraboo, concluding the first period trailing 1-0 to Viroqua. The second period saw a significant momentum change as Baraboo's offense revived. Brody Bjorklund was particularly effective, scoring two goals during a power play, supplemented by Wyatt Arnold and Dayne Wagner, who added two more goals, pushing the score to a close 4-3 by the end of the period. However, the Blackhawks managed to maintain their lead entering the final stanza. In the third period, the Thunderbirds made valiant efforts to bridge the gap with further contributions from Dayne Wagner, who along with Thomas Sarnow, provided a stronger defensive setup. Late game strategies attempted to overturn the deficit, but it wasn't enough to stop Carson Williams of Viroqua from scoring the game-winning goal. Jesse Arnold and Braxtyn Marx shared responsibilities between the pipes, facing a tough Viroqua offense. Looking forward, the Baraboo Thunderbirds aim to rebound in their next regular season game against Black River Falls on November 28 at the Tomah Ice Arena. Currently sitting at a 1-1 record for the season, the Thunderbirds are focused on refining their strategies and improving their gameplay.
